Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that combine hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air to produce DC electricity, heat and water. Hydrogen will be reformed internally utilizing either biomethane or natural gas. The DC power will be converted to renewable AC power for use by the Customer. The fuel cells are intended to serve the Customer as a base load electrical energy application and are generally sized to meet the Customers minimum energy demand.
Fuel cells operate without combustion, so they are virtually pollution-free resulting in a 97% reduction in NOX and CO. Since the fuel is converted directly to electricity, a fuel cell can operate at much higher efficiencies than internal combustion engines, extracting more electricity from the same amount of fuel. The fuel cell itself has no moving parts, and in many ways can be thought of as a large battery, making it quiet and a reliable source of green power.
